I’m Al, the artist on the hill. Well, I used to live on a hill where I would see all the broad green landscape below me. At night I would see the stars and the moon brighter than ever. Even though I don’t live on a hill anymore the name has stuck.

Like most artists I started to draw when I was very young. I would draw on any piece of paper that I would find. One particular day my mother caught me drawing on the walls. She sure didn’t like it and convinced me never to do it again after a serious talk with me.
I studied art at a few schools: Everett Community College, The School of Visual Concepts and Seattle Central Community College. I also took lessons from a Disney animator in Burbank, California. I learned all the different aspects of Disney animation. Ah, those were the days! My goal was to be a Disney animator. However, I was in the Navy, so I couldn’t work for Disney and serve my country at the same time. I had to leave the Mouse ears behind.
After my art education was over, I continued learning on my own. I even went to the Louvre Museum in Paris. There, I spent a considerable amount of time studying the great works of the masters. I was exposed to so much incredible artistic talent that I came out of the museum a new man.
I enjoy drawing and painting just about anything. These days, I’m spending my time doing people and pet portraits. I primarily paint in oils but sometimes I use some other mediums like acrylics, gouache or watercolor. For my drawings, I prefer charcoal.
